There are many more issues. Recently we needed to implement JAX-RS REST application but the WAS 8.5.5 environment is so ancient that using even quite old JAX-RS 2 spec (from ~ 2013) was a big problem because of conflicts with WebSphere 8.5.5 web container libraries (there is official doc how to enable JAX-RS 2 support but it is not silver bullet, it does not solve everything). Also WAS 8.5.5 included Jython 2.1 is from middle-ages (~ 2005) and that prevents us from using more modern Jython features (modern is a exaggeration because last Jython 2.7 is from ~ 2017) so I did take modern Jython source code and heavilly modified it to enrich our scripts with recent Jython features. That also applies for used JDK 8 and IBM Integration Developer. I work with WPS / BAW for 17 years now and it was annoying back then and now it's beyond frustrating every day as we can't use almost any modern versions of java libraries like Spring, IID plugins etc.
Hi all, you can currently deploy Workflow on Containers where Liberty is used as the backend instaed of WAS 8.5.5.
I would also add that it's not just the security part but also the fact that WAS 8.5.5 only supports Servlet 3.0 and yet it's shipping (as part of BAW releases) Spring Framework 5.3.20 (starting BAW 21.0.3.1) and as we know Spring Framework only supports the minimal version of Servlet 3.1. As such, our business applications that rely on Spring Framework fail to work with BAW 21x/22x because of WAS 8.5.5 limitations.
