We have a document entry template for Navigator that has the option to inherit from folder set. When the document is added, this works fine. If a new folder is created and the document moved, the document retains the old folder as the security parent. If the old folder is deleted, then the security is set back to limited settings (may be instance security, not certain) and the document is no longer visible to the users. The security parent has to be manually set to the new folder to correct security.
Navigator should contain a setting, possibly at the object store level, so that when a document is moved between folders and the security folder was set, the security folder is updated to reflect the new folder where the document is moved to. This would allow the move of documents between folders and maintain consistent security settings. With the current behavior, and if the old folder location is deleted after the move, documents are no longer visible to the user(s) and causes a good amount of stress on the users who believe they have done something that caused them to "lose" their documents.
This link refers to the same behavior but i've been told that is is for Team Folders only. This shouldn't be Team folder specific.
