Enhance Daeja ViewONE Virtual Viewer Printing Performance for Large TIFF Documents

Customers using IBM Content Navigator with Daeja ViewONE Virtual Viewer have requested improvements to the printing experience for large TIFF documents.

Currently, when printing large TIFF documents (for example, documents larger than approximately 20 MB or documents containing more than 100 content elements), users experience a noticeable delay while the viewer prepares the print job. During this time, the "Preparing file" dialog remains displayed for 30 seconds to over one minute before the browser print dialog is presented.

The same behavior is observed when users select multiple documents from IBM Content Navigator search results and choose Print from the context menu.

Based on current product behavior, the viewer prepares the document by generating a PDF before it can be printed. While this behavior is expected, customers have requested improvements to reduce the preparation time for large image-based documents.

Requested Enhancement:

  • Improve the performance of the print preparation process for large TIFF documents.
  • Optimize the conversion pipeline used when preparing documents for printing.
  • Investigate opportunities to reduce the time spent generating the printable output before the browser print dialog is displayed.
  • Evaluate the feasibility of providing an alternative printing workflow that minimizes or eliminates the PDF preparation step, similar to the direct printing capabilities available in Daeja ViewONE Professional, where technically feasible.
