Enhanced User Tasks API with Comprehensive Filtering and Pagination

Summary

Request for enhancement to the existing User Tasks API to include comprehensive filtering, pagination, and ordering capabilities that are currently missing from the standard API endpoint.

Current State

The existing User Tasks API (https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/ibamoe/9.2.x?topic=workflows-user-tasks-api#_usertasksinstance) only provides basic user task retrieval for a particular user or group without any filtering capabilities, making it insufficient for enterprise use cases requiring advanced data management.

Business Justification

Current API limitations prevent efficient workflow management and force customers to implement complex client-side filtering and pagination, resulting in:

  • Poor performance due to large data transfers

  • Increased network overhead

  • Complex client-side implementation

  • Inability to efficiently manage large task lists

Required Enhancement

Single Comprehensive API Endpoint

Create a unified facade layer API that intelligently handles different input scenarios:

Automatic Mode (No filters provided):

  • Return user's complete worklist

Filter Mode (Filter parameters provided):

  • Apply specified filters and return filtered results

Required Filter Parameters

  • businessKey - Filter by businessKey (support of wildcard in businessKey should be there so that we can filter by businessKey matching to a specific pattern)

  • processId - Filter by specific process

  • assignedUser - Filter by assigned user or Group

  • status - Filter by task status

  • filter via process variables

Required Functionality

  • Ordering: Support for multiple sort fields including:

    • Created date

    • Last update date

    • Task state

  • Pagination: Standard pagination with page size and offset parameters

  • Dynamic Filtering: Ability to combine multiple filter criteria

Expected API Behavior

The API should intelligently route requests based on provided parameters and return consistently formatted responses.

Implementation Request

Provide a single API endpoint that consolidates current User Tasks API functionality with GraphQL capabilities, eliminating the need for customers to manage multiple API integrations for basic workflow operations.
