Enhance IBM Content Collector for Email to Support Extraction and Archiving of Attached EML and MSG Files

IBM Content Collector for Email is widely used in enterprise environments to archive business-critical email content into IBM FileNet. However, many organizations frequently encounter scenarios where emails contain attached email files in EML or MSG format that represent important business records, approvals, customer communications, and compliance-related information.

Currently, these attached email files are not fully processed, which can result in critical content being excluded from the archiving process. This creates challenges in records management, eDiscovery, compliance, and long-term information governance.

Proposed Enhancement:

  • Detect and process attached email files with EML and MSG MIME types.
  • Extract metadata, content, and attachments from nested email files.
  • Archive the extracted content into IBM FileNet while maintaining parent-child relationships.
  • Support search, retrieval, and governance of nested email records.

Business Benefits:

  • Ensures preservation of all business-critical communications.
  • Improves compliance and audit readiness.
  • Reduces risk of missing important customer records.
  • Enhances searchability and retrieval of archived content.
  • Eliminates manual intervention required to manage unsupported email attachments.
