IBM ODM 9.5 compatibility with Java 17

We would like to request IBM Operational Decision Manager (ODM) version 9.5 support and certified compatibility with Java 17 for ODM Embedded deployments. This is required for environments running on platforms such as AWS Glue, where Java 17 is currently the latest supported Java version.

    Some facts first:

    • ODM 9.0 is compatible with Java 17.

    • Java 17 (OpenJDK build, Temurin or IBM Semeru) is reaching End of Support on 31 October 2027.

    • Rebuilding ODM 9.5 with Java 17 instead of Java 21 is not an option. ODM 9.5 uses many 3rd party libraries, some of them requiring Java 21.

One path to explore would be to keep ODM 9.5 for decision authoring and management, and use ODM 9.0 to build, deploy and execute the decision services in AWS Glue. The source decision service projects could be exported from ODM 9.5 and built with ODM 9.0. The format of ODM rule projects has not been modified between ODM 9.0 and 9.5.
