Yet again we had a situation in production wherein the business user engaged in simulation of their decision operation which included a filter query and their nominated rules and when the ruleset failed to be created got a dumb error "RuleSet could not be created with no additional details (see attached)
Further engaging the IT, when the technical staff looked through the wlp logs (message.log) they identified one of the rules in their filtered selection was in error looking through the java exception stack. And then further advice the business user to fix that error and try the simulation again
Here is the net outcome this caused:
- The business rule could not be simulated and tested in time
- Rule deployment was delayed into production due to lack of simulation
- IT Support staff had to be involved.
- Business users' confidence in authoring consistent business rules was eroded.
Let I hope you agree Business console is a business users' tool where they can confidently write consistent profiles, simulate and deploy the same knowing that the rule set will be created. This was far from the case in this example
- No details were provided to the business user other that rule set creation failed.
- Yes! deployment to server creates a deployment report which would capture the business rule errors, but this does not apply to simulation
- Even if the exception stack was presented on the screen on failed ruleset creation, you cannot expect the business users to comprehend the source of the error.
By removing the ability of validating the query results hence the decision operation in the business console atleast since 9.x , previously in EC, the product has taken away the confidence the business users have that their rules are consistent. There is no replacement feature that the product provides to fill this vital gap for our business users.
Yes, you may argue the business users must carefully check each and every rule before they simulate. But please reason our situation where we have a large set of business users working collectively across 3K+ business rules.
How can you assure our business users ?
regards
Jatin
