BC - Ability to better organise and manage queries

When managing queries in the Business Console under a rules project, it is not possible to organise queries into subfolders or perform other tasks that are normally available for other decision artefacts, like locking/unlocking and filtering. Now that Smart-folders are no longer available in V9, there will be a greater reliance on users having to do searches and queries to look for rules of interest when using BC. For a large user base, the number of queries has the potential to become excessive, causing usability and potential performance issues when displayed as one list. There is also a need to lock down some queries that should not be changed.

Can functionality be provided that allows better management of queries:

- ability to create query folders and then create queries within those folders

- ability to move/copy queries into to folders

- ability to lock/unlock queries (important for certain decision operations that should not be changed by users or are reserved for certain purposes)

- filtering of queries (based on keywords entered into a filter, similar to rules)

- ordering and sorting of queries

    Below are a few suggestions based on early business feedback to improve the query report presentation:
    •            The generated reports are based on queries; however, queries do not appear to be versioned in Business Console (unlike Enterprise Console). This limits traceability and makes the resulting query reports cumbersome.
    •            Introducing a simple alphabetical ordering of queries would help business users easily locate their reporting queries among a large list. Currently, queries in BC are not alphabetically organized, unlike in EC.
    •            The query-generated report displays all properties for a given business item (including hidden properties from the extension model). The report should ideally maintain consistency with the way rule properties are displayed across authoring and visualization in other views.
    •            The HTML layout could be simplified — for instance, by minimizing the number of font variations and alignments.
    •            Anotherobservation from one of the business users in their words: “If simulation reports can be printed using the Print button on the ribbon, why can’t the same approach be applied when printing a query report?” (i.e., allow an HTML file download to be printed).

    From a product perspective, we believe these enhancements would significantly improve usability, adoption, and efficiency for business users of ODM. We’d be happy to provide further details, if required.
