Hi Robert,
This was rejected because WAS-ND (8.5.5 and 9.0.5) are both tied to Java 8 and are not moving beyond Java 8.
Oracle has stated they will support Java 8 through December 2030: https://www.oracle.com/java/technologies/java-se-support-roadmap.html
WAS 8.5.5 and WAS 9.0.5 will follow a similar timeline including both standard support and extended support.
Announcement: https://www-01.ibm.com/common/ssi/cgi-bin/ssialias?subtype=ca&infotype=an&supplier=897&letternum=ENUS220-128

BAW can only support what WAS-ND supports for the traditional deployment.
With that said, WAS Liberty, which is what BAW on containers uses, does support newer versions of Java. We are planning to update to a newer version of Java (e.g. Java 11) for BAW on containers in a future release.
