Adding mail attribute of LDAP in LSW_USR_XREF table

Why is it useful?

We are currently working on workflow implementation for Qatar’s largest bank, which has more than 475 processes running in the production environment and a substantial number of new instances being created daily. The daily task volume executed by business users is also significantly higher than a standard BAW implementation.

Our environment includes a large user base of approximately 50,000 users in LDAP. Nearly every task within the BPD triggers email notifications to multiple users. To send these emails, the system retrieves users’ email addresses (mail attribute) from LDAP. This results in a high number of LDAP calls.

How should it work?

To optimize performance, we aim to minimize these frequent LDAP lookups by implementing an attribute caching mechanism. We observed that certain user attributes, such as UID and full name, are already stored in the BPM product database table LSW_USR_XREF. By adding an additional column for the mail attribute and synchronizing it with LDAP — similar to the existing synchronization for UID and full name — we can substantially reduce LDAP queries.

Who would benefit from it?

This enhancement will not only decrease the load on LDAP servers but also improve BAW performance, as excessive LDAP calls currently contribute to slower response times and system lag.

In the same table LSW_USR_XREF we can add manager attribute along with the mail attribute and sync on the regularly basis as being done with the other attributes in the same table LSW_USR_XREF.
