Prevent Users from Modifying CMIS Queries in ECM Document List in IBM BAW

See this idea on ideas.ibm.com

The ECM Document List component in IBM Business Automation Workflow (BAW) dynamically generates CMIS queries to retrieve authorized case documents from IBM Content Platform Engine (CPE). However, penetration testing has revealed that users can intercept and modify the generated CMIS queries, allowing them to alter search criteria and potentially retrieve documents beyond the intended case folder.

IBM does provide the ability to restrict queries using: SELECT * FROM cmis:document WHERE IN_FOLDER('<Case_Folder_ID>')
However, the current implementation does not prevent query modification when requests are intercepted. This enhancement request proposes adding security controls to ensure that CMIS queries cannot be altered by users.

It helps in:

  • Prevents unauthorized retrieval of case-related documents by enforcing strict query integrity.
  • Ensures that queries are executed exactly as generated, reducing security risks.
  • Eliminates the risk of query manipulation leading to unauthorized document exposure.

Please enforce:

  • Introduce a mechanism to sign or hash the CMIS query and validate it before execution to detect modifications.,
  • Provide an option in IBM BAW to lock CMIS queries generated by the ECM Document List so they cannot be altered.
  • Ensure that CMIS queries executed through ECM Document List strictly enforce the IN_FOLDER('<Case_Folder_ID>') constraint.
