Enhanced Compatibility and Monitoring Support for Datadog with IBM CP4BA on OpenShift

Business Requirement:

We are looking for comprehensive monitoring capabilities for the IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation (CP4BA) platform deployed on OpenShift Container Platform (OCP).

Datadog is a leading observability and application performance monitoring platform, offering capabilities such as infrastructure monitoring, application performance monitoring (APM), log analytics, Real User Monitoring (RUM), Synthetic Monitoring, and end-user journey tracking.

These capabilities are essential for proactive daily monitoring, identifying performance bottlenecks, troubleshooting application-level issues, and tracking end-user experience across business-critical workflows.

Requested Enhancement / Support:

Official compatibility confirmation for Datadog integration with OCP 4.18.41 and CP4BA 24.0.1 IF008/IF009.

Recommended installation and configuration guidelines for Datadog agents/operators within the CP4BA architecture.

Support for monitoring CP4BA components, including BAW, FileNet, workflow services, application pods, databases, and underlying infrastructure.

Visibility into application performance, pod health, resource utilization, logs, and distributed tracing.

End-user monitoring capabilities to track application performance and business journey-level experience.

Recommended best practices to ensure Datadog integration does not impact CP4BA platform stability or performance.

Business Impact:

A unified monitoring dashboard will help the support team proactively identify issues, reduce troubleshooting time, improve incident response, and maintain platform availability across environments.

We request IBM to validate and provide official recommendations for Datadog integration and supportability with the above-mentioned OCP and CP4BA versions.

My additional recommendations

I would highlight these three points during the IBM discussion:

End-to-end visibility: Monitor from OpenShift infrastructure through CP4BA application services to the end-user business journey.

Proactive incident management: Identify pod failures, JVM issues, database bottlenecks, application errors, and performance degradation before they affect business users.

Platform compatibility: Obtain IBM's confirmation on supported deployment architecture, operators, agents, instrumentation, and any known limitations.

One important suggestion: You can mention Gartner and Forrester recognition as supporting justification for selecting Datadog, but verify the exact report names and publication years before quoting specific Leader rankings. Analyst recognition does not automatically establish IBM product compatibility or supportability.
