HTTP Error Page Customization for IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation (CP4BA) on OpenShift

We are currently running IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation (CP4BA) on OpenShift, with the workflow-server component (based on WebSphere ND) exposed externally via routes.

During internal security assessments (pentesting), our security team at Vale identified vulnerabilities in the default HTTP error pages (e.g., 404), which leak technical or sensitive server information. These findings pose a risk in production environments and block approval for new APIs.

We are seeking a way to customize HTTP error pages persistently, returning secure and user-friendly messages. However, all available documentation refers to traditional WebSphere ND deployments, and no official guidance or support is provided for containerized CP4BA environments.

While external workarounds using WAF or ingress rewriting exist, our goal is to have a native, supported mechanism within CP4BA’s operator or container configuration, ideally exposed via CR or ConfigMap.

We respectfully request IBM to:

Consider adding support for HTTP error page customization (404, 403, 500, etc.) in containerized CP4BA environments;

Provide official documentation or best practices on how to apply this customization within OpenShift deployments;

Evaluate including this capability in future versions of the CP4BA Operator.
