Simplify searching an individual Application Group

Searching today follows one of three paths:

  1. Based on ODCriteria values

  2. Based on SQL

  3. Based on an ODNamedQuery

The only provision in ODWek to allow restricting searches to a given Application Group is via ODFolder.setApplGroupForSearchWithSQL().

My proposal:

  1. Provide an additional ODFolder method for setting the Application Group for ODCriteria-based searches

  2. If #1 is not feasible, provide a method for outputting the SQL for a given Application Group search, based on the current ODCriteria values. Then it'd be possible to:

    1. Call setApplGroupForSearchWithSQL

    2. Feed this generated SQL into the search that supports SQL

Thanks so much Neil for the suggestion!

We hadn't considered that as an option, and as such, I've opened the discussion with our CMOD Admins to get their feedback as to the feasibility of updating our CMOD Folder definitions to include the new optional field.

    Hello Sean,

In a CMOD Folder – you can define an application group field (which would then be a list of all the application groups in the folder), which then could be used to specify a specific application group for the ODCriteria. Have you tried this approach?

    Thanks,

This is needed as a result of https://dba.ideas.ibm.com/ideas/BACSD-I-150 not being considered.
