Add a Dictionary type to Glossary to define an Acronym/Definition term and its meaning - display both in artifacts

Adding a new Acronym/Definition type in the Glossary would allow predefined entries that could be accessed from within the process model. When entering the term in the Details panel, the selection of matching terms would appear in the picklist. Once selected, both the term and the definition would be displayed on the Details panel.

Example:

  1. Editor enters the term "FTP" in the field.
  2. If it is already defined in the Glossary, it would appear in the picklist for selection along with its definition.
  3. If not already in Glossary, user would be able to add the definition.
  4. Once selected, the term would be displayed along with its definition.
  5. Glossary would allow duplicate terms for those that have multiple meanings based on usage.

[FTP]  [File Transfer Protocol]

Like all other Glossary types, the list of terms can be imported from an Excel list. Enumeration should also be an admin option for this type.

Just tested out your solution in BWL and see that Word docs DO show the description in the Glossary section at the end of each model. That could work for us so I'll present the idea to my team and see if they have any additional concerns. Thanks again!

That makes sense, Swapnil, but how does the Word extract from the model display those definitions. They would only show the term, but not the underlying definition. Anyone without direct access to the BWL account (external partners for example) would not be able to view the definitions and they would be the most important consumers of that information.

Hi Jeff, thank you for your feeedback and ideas as always. Today, if you add a custom property type called "Definition", you can mark it as an enumeration type which makes it a dropdown. Then in the glossary, you can add acronyms as values for the definition and provide the term or definition in the description. When you then hover over the acronyms in an artifact, you will see the description in the tooltip (see screenshot below). Does that help?
