Digital Business Automation Ideas

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Post your ideas

Start by posting ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted and upvote them if they matter to you,

  1. Post an idea

  2. Upvote ideas that matter most to you

  3. Get feedback from the IBM team to refine your idea

Help IBM prioritize your ideas and requests

The IBM team may need your help to refine the ideas so they may ask for more information or feedback. The offering manager team will then decide if they can begin working on your idea. If they can start during the next development cycle, they will put the idea on the priority list. Each team at IBM works on a different schedule, where some ideas can be implemented right away, others may be placed on a different schedule.

Receive notifications on the decision

Some ideas can be implemented at IBM, while others may not fit within the development plans for the product. In either case, the team will let you know as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to find alternatives for ideas that cannot be implemented in a reasonable time.

Please use the following category to raise ideas for these offerings for all environments (traditional on premises, containers, on cloud):

  • Cloud Pak for Automation - incl Business Automation Studio, Business Automation Insights

  • Business Automation Workflow (BAW) - incl BAW, Business Process Manager, Workstream Services, Business Performance Center, Advanced Case Management

Ability to See & Clear Relative Layout & Connection Docking by Activity

Provide ability to release a relative layout lock or connection docking lock from an object so it can go back to auto layout. Once you've locked an object's position relative to another object or moved a line's connection point, there's no way to release that lock to let automatic layout work. Since we also don't know what is locked to other objects, it's very difficult to understand what is causing layout issues. Selecting "Restore Layout" is NOT an option after hours of working on large models.

Idea Priority Medium
Use Case
1. Have the ability to turn on a visual cue to show what objects are locked to other objects and which line connection points have been manually moved: a) Right-click on model whitespace for pop-up menu. b) Select new option to "Turn on lock cues" c) Any object with a relative position lock will have a visual cue showing what it has been locked to including the direction of the lock - this could be a highlighting of the side that's facing its partner similar to "Pinning" and a corresponding different color on its partner OR a colored dashed/dotted line with arrow showing locks. d) Any line connection point that has been manually moved would have that location change color with a dot or some other indicator. 2. Additional ability to selectively release the lock for either situation: a) Right-click on locked activity or connection point. b) Pop-up menu provides corresponding option to "Release Relative Positioning" or "Release Connection Point Lock" c) Lock is released for the object/connection point selected and auto-layout is restored for that object/point.
