Loop detection. Rules loops that cause memory overloads should shut down gracefully

When creating a rules project that calls another rules project, but accidentally gets called back you end up in an endless loop. This loop causes a memory overflow which crashes the server.

It would be better if an error is thrown so that the developer can fix the code. At present the server needs to be rebooted which is time consuming

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

Given the time since this was initially raised and the solutions mentioned in previous comments, we're not currently planning additional measures for this specific issue.

If you're still experiencing this problem, please update your idea with current information. This will help us better understand any ongoing challenges.

Your insights help make our product better. Keep the ideas coming!

If this is an issue with rule-flow calling a business rule task, then the appropriate exception handler should be configured. There are numerous articles published that detail how to handle exceptions in DRL and with KIE Server. You can also always use rule attributes such as no-loop and lock-on-active, which should help identify where the problems are, but these attributes should not be considered a long term solution as they simply mask the problem. We mostly see this in conditions that are simply not exhaustive enough.
