Safari 16+ and Firefox Support in BAMOE Canvas

Overview and Problem Statement

The goal of this epic is to enable full support for Safari 16+ and Firefox (macOS and RHEL) when using BAMOE Canvas, by incorporating the fixes recently introduced in upstream KIE Canvas 0.23.0.
These upstream changes resolve long-standing issues where Safari and Firefox users were unable to input values into certain UI fields—particularly the “GitHub Token” field—leading to a degraded and inconsistent user experience across browsers.

Lack of support for these browsers prevents teams using macOS or RHEL from adopting Canvas as part of their daily development workflow, limiting usability, accessibility, and adoption in mixed-OS environments.

Business Context and Background

BAMOE Canvas is heavily used by customers across diverse operating systems and browsers. Today, Canvas works reliably in Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Chrome), but Safari and Firefox users encounter blocking issues due to input field rendering and event‑handling bugs in earlier versions of KIE Canvas.

Upstream KIE Canvas 0.23.0 includes the necessary fixes to support these browsers, but BAMOE Canvas has not yet integrated these changes.

Customers, especially those on macOS and RHEL have requested broader browser support to better align with their enterprise standards and developer workflows.

Improving cross‑browser compatibility will:

  • Increase adoption of BAMOE Canvas in organizations with mixed desktop environments

  • Remove blockers preventing developers from using GitHub‑enabled features

  • Improve accessibility and user satisfaction

  • Ensure BAMOE Canvas behaves consistently regardless of browser choice

Goals and Non‑Goals

Persona A: Business User (Using BAMOE Canvas UI)

Goal – Allow Safari and Firefox users to fully interact with Canvas, including entering values into all input fields (e.g., GitHub Token, environment variables, deployment parameters).
Goal – Deliver consistent UI behavior across Chrome, Edge, Safari, and Firefox.
Non‑goal – Expand UI features beyond what currently exists in Canvas.
