IBM Content Navigator - WYSIWYG Mail Editor in IBM Content Navigator

The mail editor in ICN supports only plain text, but MTU Aero Engines AG as customer needs WYSIWYG functionality. A function frequently used by all users and end customers is sending emails directly from ICN. Unfortunately, the mail client in ICN only supports PLAIN text. Formatting of emails is therefore not possible! For the everyday correspondence with the customers, however, formatting such as outlining, highlighting important information or inserting and marking quotes are an very important part of the daily communication for MTU Aero Engines AG in the leading IBM ECM System. MTU Aero Engines AG as customer therefore requests the enhancement of the ICN mail client with a WYSIWYG editor as it is now standard in other enterprise products. Out expectation is therefore to extend the mail client in ICN with a WYSIWYG editor in a nearby future ICN release.

If we can transfer P8 documents to the Edit Services as attachments + To/From/CC/Subject and Body, then that's fine.

And would you need to pass the to/cc/subject/body in this URL?

    Yes

Hello, We are investigating providing an API, which is really a deep link/URL, that would open a document in Edit service. This would be similar to opening the document in the Viewer using this API: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/content-navigator/3.0.x?topic=client-constructing-url-content-navigator, but in Edit Service instead. Would this type of functionality work for your use case? And would you need to pass the to/cc/subject/body in this URL?

    Hi Mayes,

this issue is still open. Is there a change to get a WYSIWYG - What You See Is What You Get - Editor for the E-Mail Window in ICN?

    OR

Can we get a API for the interface to MS Outlook to transfer data like subject and body to the E-Mail window in MS Outlook?

We have a new issue, that we must use E-Mail singatures, so that one issue is, that we use our company logo in the e-mail signature and we can not do that with the ICN standard e-mail window, because there is only plain text allowed.

    Thanks in advance,

    Thorsten Drews

    Hi IBM,

again the question regarding a API for the IBM Content Navigator Edit Service.

Is there any possibility to transfer data from the ICN-Client into an E-Mail for the Subject and the Body of the E-Mail?

    Hi,

is there any chance to get an answer to the question, will it be possible to hand over the values

    • Receiver (TO and CC)

    • Message-Subject

    • Message-Body

to the MS Outlook E-Mail window?

We have two possibilities, first the local Outlook installation and also the outlook-online.

Is there any API for the IBM Content Navigator Edit Service?

    Thanks in advance, Thorsten Drews

    Hi Mayes,

we have checked it, and with the newest Version of the Edit Service we get a MS Outlook E-Mail window.

However, in our process, we need also the possibility to open the E-Mail editor with parameter from the ICN, which are:

    • Receiver (TO and CC)

    • Message-Subject

    • Message-Body

We have this information as data to the document and for our process it would very helpful to transfer the data directly into the E-Mail.

Do you have some API for the edit client or are there other possibilities to do that?

    Thanks, Thorsten

We now have an option that allows clients to use their desktop email application as an editor as well. This involves downloading and using the Edit Service on the user's workstation (supported for Mac and Windows). This could be an alternative solution to having a full editor within Content Navigator.

This is, what we need - a WYSIWYG editor in standard ICN. It is a quasi-standard.
