Native XLSX export from IBM Content Navigator lists

Description
IBM Content Navigator currently provides a standard export capability from content lists / search result lists to CSV format. While CSV is useful for simple exports, many business users expect an Excel-compatible .xlsx file that can be opened directly without additional transformation.

In practice, CSV exports can create usability issues, especially when regional settings, separators, encoding or formatting are not aligned with the user’s Excel configuration. This often leads to additional manual steps for business users.

It would be very valuable to provide a native XLSX export option directly from IBM Content Navigator.

Requested enhancement
Add a standard “Export to Excel” or “Export to XLSX” action for content lists and search result lists in IBM Content Navigator.

The generated XLSX file should ideally:

  • Include the visible columns from the current list
  • Preserve column headers
  • Properly format dates, numbers and text values
  • Support selected rows and/or full search result export
  • Respect user permissions and security trimming
  • Handle pagination or large result sets in a controlled way
  • Optionally include basic metadata about the export, such as export date, repository and search name

Business value
A native XLSX export would significantly improve user experience and reduce manual processing. It would allow business users to directly open and exploit exported FileNet metadata in Microsoft Excel, which is a common operational requirement.

This would also reduce the need for customer-specific ICN plugins developed only to compensate for the current CSV limitation.

Expected behavior
From a content list or search result list, the user should be able to choose an export action such as:

  • Export to CSV
  • Export to XLSX

The XLSX file should be generated by IBM Content Navigator and downloaded directly by the browser.

Use case
A business team performs a FileNet search in IBM Content Navigator and needs to share or analyze the result list in Excel. Instead of exporting a CSV file and manually converting it, the user selects “Export to XLSX” and receives a directly usable Excel file.
