IBM Content Collector to have a generic emaill connector implementation to connect using SMTP host, port and credentials, with optional folder name.

Why it is useful?
Many customers use IBM Content Collector to ingest documents into IBM FileNet Content manager, and one of the main use case is to archive emails from the mail inbox and store it for future reference. Currently, the IBM Content Collector has only two email connectors - Lotus Dmonio and MicroSoft Exchange. The way the email connector works is that it uses the Outlook client and Notes client to connect and retrieve the emails and archive it. We have customers who are using other email servers where this email connector does not work. This has been a handicap and customers are moving away from the product and using differnt approaches to achieve it.

Who would benefit from it?
Customers who have email systesm other than MS Exchange or Lotus Domino and additionally not preferring to go with SMTP push notification from the email server side would find it feasible.

How should it work?
Our suggestion would be to have a Java based adapter or any convenient implementation that could use libraries as Jakarta email or Apache emails or Java mail which could accept the SMTP connection information and try to fetch emails from the inbox or any folder within the inbox. This kind of adapter could easily communicate with any mail server implementation and provide a good option for customers using mail servers other than Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Domino.

There are no plans to enhance the already existing SMTP email receiver in the way as requested.
