Defaulting and Filtering for ICN Simple Search

Defaulting Search on Document Class instead of Object Store

  • Right now, when using the ICN Simple Search Feature, you are allowed to select from a list of Object Stores that you want to perform your search in. We are wondering if it can allow us to default/set a Document Class it searches on instead of searching across the entire object store.

  • We have set up our FileNet Environments so we have object stores for the different divisions in our company. Within these object stores, we have custom document classes for the different CN or CM desktops we have developed for different areas within those divisions. So when an end user goes to a particular desktop, they expect to only be interacting with documents/data for that particular area, not everything they have access to within that division. Allowing us to specify what document class is being searched on when we use the Simple Search Feature would allow us to keep this narrowed focus we have created with the different desktops and document classes.

Filtering on Custom Document Properties

  • Right now, when using the ICN Simple Search Feature, you are allowed to filter on a small subset of system properties that exist on every document class. We are wondering if this could be expanding to include any property (including custom properties) that are on the document classes being search on/returned.

  • All of the Content Navigator Applications we have built use custom Document Classes with custom Document Properties. Allows the end user to filter by some or all of these custom Document Properties so they can better refine their search they are performing to find the document they are looking for.

A subset of this idea is planned for release. You will be able to filter on custom document properties that are text properties.
