Add String Manipulation Methods to Business Action Language

Currently there are no basic string manipulation methods in the Business Action Language in IBM Automation Decision Services (ADS). This leads to the need to implement basic string manipulation methods like toUppercase and toLowercase in external Java Libraries that need to be imported into ADS manually. The effort and the manual coding needed is contradictory to the Low-Code Business Rule story as basic string manipulation is needed in nearly every ADS project.

    Maybe we should think bigger and wish for a flexible and no-code way to add any such helper methods to the rule language. I have kept adding to an ODM toolkit for many years with methods such as Max and Min, contains any of, contains none of, case insensitive comparison etc. ADS added a lot of the nice date comparison operators that are missing in ODM but there will always be a gap so a neat way to add anything would be a great new feature.
